Do You Need Insurance for Your RV?

October 2, 2018

RVs are a fun way to travel the country and bring the comforts of home with you. They range in size and shape, but they’re still motor vehicles. Today we’re going to be taking a look at RV insurance, when you need it, and why.

Do You Need Insurance for an RV?

The short answer is yes. If your RV can be driven, then it classifies as a motor vehicle, and motor vehicles need liability insurance to be operated lawfully on the road. The level of insurance you may want for your vehicle will depend on its class. There are 3 classes of RVs: A, B, and C. The size and style will dictate which class your RV falls into, and thus, the necessary corresponding insurance.

The bottom line is that if your RV can be driven, it needs insurance.

What Will RV Insurance Cover?

An RV insurance policy offers you a variety of protections in the event of an accident. Depending on the level of insurance you select, this protection can cover a variety of different aspects. For example, you can apply for RV insurance that offers the following options:

  • Roadside and towing assistance.
  • Uninsured motorist coverage.
  • Replacement for parts or even the entire vehicle.
  • Requirements from a rental company.

Your RV Insurance Follows You

Part of the fun of a recreational vehicle is that it travels. Thankfully, your insurance will follow you throughout your journey, no matter how far. This can be very important in the event you choose to park your RV at a campsite and something happens to it, or even if it is damaged in a natural disaster in your own backyard.
