At American Heritage Insurance, we’ve been providing Marylanders with our insurance services since 1983, nearly 40 years ago, and it’s got us feeling pretty nostalgic. We wanted to take some time today to look back at all of our years of service, and to look back at the year that was 1983.
What Were We Listening To?
A lot of great music came out in 1983, but these are the albums that we were spinning on repeat back in the day:
- Thriller – Michael Jackson
- Business As Usual – Men at Work
- Metal Health – Quiet Riot
- Can’t Slow Down – Lionel Richie
Additionally, a couple of our favorite songs from that year include:
- “Every Breath You Take” – The Police
- “Maneater” – Hall & Oates
- “Sweet Dreams” – Eurythmics
- “Let’s Dance” – David Bowie
- “Puttin’ On The Ritz” – Taco
- “Rock The Casbah” – The Clash
What Was On TV?
They sure don’t make television like they used to. TV in the 80’s was certainly different than what airs today, just look at some of the most popular shows of that year, and the networks they aired on:
- Dallas – CBS
- Dynasty – ABC
- The A-Team – NBC
- Magnum, P.I. – CBS
- Cagney & Lacey – CBS
- The Love Boat – ABC
- The Jeffersons – CBS
What Was On The Big Screen?
Grossing almost twice as much as the second highest grossing movie (Tootsie at $136 million), the conclusion of the original Star Wars trilogy, Return of the Jedi, grossed nearly $250 million. Some other popular films of 1983 were:
- Flashdance
- Trading Places
- WarGames
- Octopussy
- Mr. Mom
- Staying Alive
- Risky Business
- National Lampoon’s Vacation
