Drones have quickly developed from novelties to functional allies in the workplace. From companies like Amazon to local law enforcement agencies, businesses are beginning to understand the value drones can add to their line of work. Let’s look at some areas in which drones are being used in the workforce, and the implications that has.
Home Delivery
One of the ways we will begin to see drones being utilized for everyday services is with package deliveries. Amazon is currently testing and tweaking their Prime Air Initiative, where unmanned drones are delivering packages to customers. These types of delivery services will cut down on manpower, environmental impacts from automobiles, and will even shorten expected delivery times.
Police Monitoring
Drones are also being utilized in law enforcement in a variety of ways. Drones are used for traffic surveillance, analysis, and accident reporting. Following an accident, drones can be used to photograph the scene quickly, allowing drivers back on the road sooner. Drones have also proven valuable in active shooter situations, allowing the police to monitor the situation and assess the best course of action. Likewise, drones can be used for bomb detection and inspection, without risking the lives of the law enforcement officers.
News Coverage
Similarly to their use in police monitoring, drones are being used by news outlets, as they allow them to film and photograph in areas where previously they may not have been able to. Getting a bird’s eye view of newsworthy events helps news outlets stay on top of stories and allows them to get the critical information to us faster.
How Drones are Already Making an Impact
Drones are already making an impact in the police department and news, and are quickly being developed for more uses, such as package delivery services. In addition to these areas, personal drones are growing in popularity, whether they be for photography or just for fun. One thing that has recently developed due to the growing popularity of drones is drone insurance. Drones are costly, and just like a car they can be expensive to repair if they are damaged. Some insurance companies are now offering drone insurance to help protect owners in the event that something happens to their drone while in use.
Drones are going to be a big part of the future; we are already seeing them being put to use in the workforce. The development of this technology is exciting to watch unfold, but the implications mean the development of things like drone insurance, drone repair, maintenance, etc. At American Heritage, we look towards the future and all that it brings by offering Maryland drone insurance to businesses that are utilizing this new technology.
